AZBUKI COLLECTION

The "Azbuki collection" is inspired both by the history of my hometown and the history of the country where I live. Like the RAW collection, this one is based on subtle organic shapes and natural earthy colors, and what's really different is how this collection is made from pure, raw clay that we hand dug from the natural clay pools in my hometown.

I draw my inspiration for all my works from the place I live in, the emotions it creates, the way it changes, and the history that surrounds me, so this collection aims to display a sculpture that will "capture" the life of my hometown in a unique way through the use of natural local clay and through the history of my city. Each of us is shaped by the place in which we grow up, we become attached to it. Precisely because of my expressed need to "stop" the changeability of the space in some way, I create works that are a physical memory of the place in which they were created, the emotion that was present at the time, and to remind me where I come from.

Considering that at my place of work at the Vinkovci Municipal Museum I am surrounded by historical forms and forms from different periods every day, then it is quite logical that this collection is also a product of inspiration from historical elements. The forms of the sculptures are inspired by, for me personally, extremely interesting forms that can be found in the first script that Croats used to record their mother language in the 10th/11th century. century. Glagolitic script is the oldest Slavic script with letters that not only denote sounds but also have a numerical value. The very name of the collection comes from the name of the first two letters (az and buki).

The collection has five pieces, each of which is unique and different. In the future, this collection may receive another work or a continuation the collection. All pieces of the Azbuki collection are also handcrafted using the perfect combination of organic and modern elements. A combination of aesthetics that is between contemporary and traditional. Using traditional manual methods of coiling clay, I create works that remember my touch through the traces on the surface created by the movements of my fingers and the wooden tools I use. It is precisely this imperfection of clay and texture that attracts me the most because then the surface of the clay gives the impression of being alive, a sense of timelessness, and creates a continuous connection with the human activity that shaped them.  Each artwork is handmade and unique, can't be reproduced.
